6 October 2006 - Thirty Sixth Meeting

  • The Minutes and Resolutions of the previous meeting were approved.

  • It was reported that there were 162 victims of vCJD as at 29 September 2006, according to the figures on the Department of Health's website. However Charles Russell were aware of 168 victims. Main Applications had been received in relation to 165 claims. By the end of this meeting, the Trustees will have considered 160 cases on the claims submitted to date. There are five new claims being dealt with at present. The Trustees had considered a total of 327 claims for £5,000 Psychiatric Injury, 153 claims for Particular Emotional Hardship and 27 claims for Particular Financial Hardship.

  • The meeting included consideration of fourteen claims by family members of four victims for the single sum of £5,000 for psychiatric injury lasting longer than a calendar month that has been caused or materially aggravated by the fact that the victim has contracted vCJD, seven claims in relation to five victims for Particular Emotional Hardship, no claims for Particular Financial Hardship as a result of psychiatric injury and one re-submitted claims for Particular Emotional Hardship in relation to one victim.

  • The Trustees agreed that they were unable to consider the principles applicable to claims for Carers' Loss of Earnings until further claims had been submitted.
